His role as a chief minister was influenced by queries by his fans as to what was his contribution to society in general. He felt speechless, whenever people asked him “Ayya, memu mimmalni devudu laga adarinchamu, kani meeru maku emi chesaru?” (We have treated you like a God but what have you done for us?) He was so much moved by such queries that after pondering it over several days he decided to form a political party to serve the people and strive for their all round upliftment.

Polit Bureau Members

But its meetings are thought to be regular and frequent, often characterised by blunt speaking and disagreement. Senior leaders speak first and then sum up, giving their views extra weight. The emphasis is always on reaching a consensus, but if no consensus is reached, the majority holds sway. Once a decision has been made, all members are bound by it. Although policy disagreements and factional fighting are widely believed to take place in private, it is extremely rare for these to break into the public domain.
